You may have seen an article earlier this week by Damian Rollison that ran in Street Fight Magazine. He does a great job highlighting the focus on Maponics Context, which he describes as, ” . . . a value-added component to traditional maps that may help to bring primary mapping information into a meaningful context to users.”
I particularly liked Rollison’s title: “Do We Want Listings in Context?” The question obviously answers itself as Rollison starts going through examples, such as the case of a tourist who is in an unfamiliar city and looking for a restaurant.
It seems pretty clear that rather than just knowing the address of a restaurant, it would be helpful to know how safe the neighborhood is, or how walkable the location is compared to other restaurants.
When it comes down to it, it’s hard to imagine any location information that wouldn’t be enhanced by a little context.
