Maponics and GreatSchools have been partners since July 2012, when GreatSchools launched a mapping tool of interactive school ratings and attendance zones featuring Maponics School Boundaries.

Their relationship is now enhanced - Maponics will offer GreatSchools ratings and reviews with its School Boundaries dataset.

The Value of GreatSchools Ratings and Reviews

GreatSchools, the leader in helping families with education data, provides profiles of 200,000 public and private schools, enabling families to pinpoint the right school for their children.

GreatSchools also provides 1 million ratings and reviews by parents, teachers and students, an additional layer of information that is highly valued by consumers.

Maponics School Boundaries Critical for Real Estate

Maponics began offering school boundaries in 2010 in response to a growing need for school attendance zone data in addition to school district data. Maponics School Boundaries include school attendance zones, school districts and public and private school points.

School attendance zones are particularly important for home buyers because it’s the school attendance zone that typically determines where a student will attend school. Maponics school attendance zones cover 82% of the US student population and 85% of the US high school population.

Real estate portals using Maponics data – such as Zillow, Realtor.com, Redfin and Trulia – show home buyers which school corresponds to a particular home.

In the example from Trulia above, you can see two sets of Maponics boundaries in action: the larger shaded area is the neighborhood of East Village in NYC, and the darker green area superimposed over the neighborhood is the school attendance zone for PS 19 Asher Levy, with available properties in both polygons.

In addition, you can see the GreatSchools rating of 5/10 for this school.

The Maponics and GreatSchools Partnership – Complete School Solution

With GreatSchools ratings and reviews now included with Maponics data, real estate portals can also provide detailed school information that further informs home buyers’ decisions.

School performance affects not only families, but valuation as well. In fact, a study by Redfin showed that housing can be up to $100,000 more expensive in neighborhoods that are assigned to a higher performing public school.

Mark Friend, Maponics Vice President of Sales and Business Development, said this about the partnership:

Our continuing and enhanced partnership with GreatSchools allows us to strengthen our complete school solution for our real estate clients. Maponics’ school boundary data works seamlessly with GreatSchools’ information, enabling us to meet the needs of even more real estate business applications.

As an increasing number of home buyers choose to sacrifice amenities to live in a school attendance zone with a top-rated school, Maponics and GreatSchools data is key for multiple real estate segments, from brokers/agents, to appraisal and valuation experts, to technology leaders.
